Japanese Tea Garden in San Francisco

Japanese Tea Garden San FranciscoI visited the Japanese Tea Garden last year before heading to the World Tea Expo.

It’s the oldest public Japanese garden in the US, and it is located in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park.

The garden also has a tea house and a gift shop, both with a Japanese theme.

Anyway, the garden has a beautiful landscaping, just like gardens in Japan.

Among the things you can find on the garden are a moon bridge, a pagoda, and a rock garden.

Of course, my favorite part was the tea house!

From the tea house you can have a good view of the garden, it’s very relaxing.

In the menu there are Japanese teas such as sencha, houjicha, genmaicha, and matcha.

The gift shop had tea, tea sets, matcha bowls, and a variety of Japanese goods.

It was a memorable experience. I highly recommend visiting if you happen to travel to San Francisco.

I’ve just woken up to those images of gardens and matcha – and I received a welcome boost of energy. Thanks for that.

Many years ago my grandmother visited that garden and brought me back a small canister of Matcha, it was the first Matcha I ever had that wasn’t ice cream, thus cementing my love of it 😉 she spoke highly of the garden.

      Hi Amanda

Thanks for sharing your story. How wonderful to have a grandmother that is into tea, in my family I’m the first one to become a tea lover 🙂

I’ve been there, and it is quite awesome.

I was a little saddened that all they served (at the time) was oolong.

      Hi Geoff

That’s funny, why would they have only oolong at the tea house?

Ricardo, too bad you went early last year. As of later last year, they have an ishi-usu (stone grinder) and they are serving higher quality matcha!
